We stayed at the Siegestor for three nights. It's in an older building, all those around it were bombed during the war, and have been rebuilt. The doors are big, heavy old wooden doors which are tough to open, but there is a very old-world feeling once you step inside. The hotel is on the 4th - 6th floors. The trip up the ancient elevator is an experience. While there is nothing special about the rooms, though they are very neat and clean, the owner, Monika, more than makes up for that. She was extremely friendly, helpful and interested in providing whatever we needed. You would never guess that she's been doing this for awhile. .
The location is very good, not a touristy area, but a student area. A 15-20 minute walk to the center and a quick walk to the Englischer Garden. There are lots of restaurants and shops just on the other side of the monument, going away from the city, again an easy and pleasant walk. The metro is right around the corner. We enjoyed our...
