The hotel is in a historic building very close to the Dammtor bahnhof. In the six stories of the building five different hotels are located. Hotel Amsterdam is on the ground and second floor. My double room, booked as a single (#2) was decently sized, with wooden floor, yellow walls and a kind of "Old England" theme. Bathroom is a bit small, but new and clean. There doors are not exactly soundproof - you can hear pretty much everything going on in the hall. There is also some noise from cars and trains from the outside. The university is immediately opposite.
Interesting breakfast concept: Rolls, coffee and little packages of butter, processed cheese, jam, etc. are on the table, two girls go round and offer cheese, cold meats, orange juice, yoghurt and boiled eggs. At EUR 5, a good alternative to the usual breakfast buffets, if you can go without muesli and fresh fruit.
