Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Come here very often, reasonably priced with good proximity to downtown whilst facing a relaxing park with deers. Booking team was super helpful and supportive when having booked mistakenly the wrong sister hotel from start. Hotel is clean and service always nice. Great breakfast selection. Will surely come back again!

We were in the restaurant for coffee and cake, which was reasonably good but when we left after spending €32 we had to pay €5.40 for the hotel car par. We expected, the car park would’ve been free of charge in view of our consumption in the restaurant. Unfortunately there was no possibility to come to an agreement on a heylower , more adequate parking fee.

The hotel is ok, getting older and that is started to show. However, the hotel staff at reception and cleaning is good. The hotel is located a bit off the Strassebahn stops so there is a few minutes walk to the hotel if you don't have a car. There is missing a walking lane from the street to the hotel, so guests have to walk across a badly illuminated car entrance and a parking lot, it is hazardous. Gas station in front of the hotel is another thing making the arrival site of the hotel environment not so attractive. The other side of the hotel is however nice turning towards the Stadtwald. The really bad experience was the restaurant in the hotel. I like to mention that I very seldom complain at a restaurant, in fact I haven't for years. I ordered a burger and that was the worst service I have experienced for many years. The burger was badly cooked but the worst thing was the buns were so hard that I couldn't cut thru them with a knife. Like they had been frozen in a bag with a hole in it so the bun was exposed to dry cold for long time. I am not joking when I say I couldn't cut through them, it was so literally. I asked the waiter to take it back and he said he would bring a new one. He however did not, and did not approach me to tell me. My wife had her chicken and she finished her meal but not a work from the waiter to me. When I asked for the bill I asked him why and he said the cook had said that nothing was wrong with the burger. I would just stay away from that restaurant, it is a shame for this hotel. Price of hotel was 407 E a double room for 3 nights without breakfast. I travel frequently to Cologne and have stayed in this hotel few times, but I will do my best to stay away from this hotel in the future.

Ended up staying here for 2 nights as the whole Cologne seemed to be fully booked during our visit. I think the breakfast was pretty good with plenty of options to choose from. Would have preferred real coffee but those coffee machines seem to be a norm nowadays. With a hotel this size, there should be more than one machine, though. My room was pretty spacious offering complementary water, coffee/tea and and basic amenities. No minibar. During my stay the free wlan worked maybe max 5min. Slept well. Good selection of pillows and even though the corridor was noisy in the evening, the nights were quiet. Since it was a business trip, I just needed a place to sleep and WiFi. Wouldn’t choose this place if I had to pay it myself.

Dear guest, thank you for your assessment. Nice to read you could enjoy your breakfast and your room. We have a vending-machine instead of Minibar in the Lobby. Did you tell us regarding the Internet? We are working with a foreign company and they need to check that. Looking forward to your next visit. Kind regards, Max Ormanns Guest relation

I took this hotel because of Anuga, the room for 5 nights cost 2100 Euros, Basicaly the bed was nice and the staff also, The reception is not responding to the phone in the evening. The room service food is very very low quality, the staff from the bar is not trained at all, I asked a Virgin mojito he brings a pineapple juice, then oblige me to pay for it, the cleaning is made only 2 nights out of 5. Thank you for never!

We recently stayed here for one night on a Saturday. Location was good because we attended a party nearby. We had a good experience in Leonardo Royal Hotels in different cities in the past, but this one wasn’t too good. It’s an old building from the 70s with old rooms. We got up on a Sunday morning and there was no hot water. We called, but there was nothing that could be done about it. We had cold showers. They explained that this happens when too many people shower at the same time. Well... odd. We had breakfast, but it was crowded and a little messy. Staff tried their best and was generally friendly. Still the cold shower wasn’t for a good start into a Sunday morning. They comped the breakfast to make up for it.

Dear guest, thank you for your assessment. Nice to read first, that you had good experiences in Leonardo Royal Hotels. We had problems with our hot water in weekend, that's correct. In the meantime our maintenance department could fix the problems. Unfortunately they were not in house on weekend. Thanks for your patience. Kind regards, Max Ormanns Guest relation

I've choose this hotel because of the location, the view and the reviews. I was surprised that when i arrived, during my check in no one mentioned small fact that the hotel decided to repair their aircon system (MID of August!!) so the AC dont work in the rooms. I discover that when i wend up and they left a letter on a table. I could not open the window as it was facing the road direction. Our agent reach out to them and we managed to agree to move to their other Leonardo hotel in the city, we rushed back to the hotel to discover that actually that was a mistake and there are no rooms available. as a compensation they moved us to the other side ( facing the lake) to be able to open the windows and offer a dinner. I dont think that was enough, not working AC is a major thing which need to be written at a stage you order the hotel and definitely mentioned when you check in to the hotel. There were other items with the first room i got such as the fact it was not clean and very old, but compare to the other issue that was minor. Its a shame, this hotel has the potential but they really need to step up, i wont say its a 4 star hotel.

Dear Sveta, thank you for your assessment. Because we installed a new AC, which is prepared also for the very hot temperatures, we needed to switch off the old one for a while. That was mentioned in the rooms and in the lobby. The new one is finally running. Thank you for your understanding. I offer you to make your next reservation directly with me. I will see, what I can do for you. Please contact me under max.ormanns@Leonardo-hotels.com. Thank you for your patience. Kind regards Max Ormanns Guest relation

This is the first time ever I’ve had to write a review about the hotel, mainly because of my disappointment about the service here. I got checked in by a gentleman.. I can get his name tomorrow, who was not the friendliest, when I asked what time do they start serving breakfast his first response was that breakfast is not included for my booking, yet that was not my question . Later I went downstairs for dinner I was told I can choose one of the high tables at the back of the restaurant and only to realize it’s for smokers and I’m asthmatic. After waiting for 20 minutes for a waiter I then decided to leave went to eat at the eat at the restaurant up the road. When I got back I called concierge and reception asking for some ice since I can’t control the air con in the room with no luck. I went down to the reception and the lady told me to go ask at the restaurant MAYBE they can help. All I can say this was the first and my last time here. But I honestly hope the staff will hopefully learn to treat all the customers the same.

The location is beautiful. On the edge of a park and on the outskirts of central cologne. Cologne old town is easily reached by the Tram which has a stop 300 metres from the hotel. The hotel doesn't look great from the outside (60s tower bock) but inside its lovelly. The terrace is a nice place to sit and have a drink overlooking the park lake. The breakfast buffett was probably the best I have had in a hotel. Wide choice and all delicious. Its a good location for the football stadium as well. Its definitly a good place to stop on the way to Germany and visit the beautiful old town in cologne

I was there for a conference, but struggled from the start: - the reservations team knew nothing about the conference, which was actually in the hotel. They were very short with their words, and quite rude. Other people said the same thing regarding their ignorance of the conference (attended by around 100 people). - I reserved two nights, two rooms, two people. I got one night, one room, one person. - I was able to extend the reservation, but was charged the daily rate, not the special conference rate. Only a stand-up row at the checkout desk got me the proper rate. It was my fault, apparently (it was not). - the beamer in the conference room was only low resolution, so all the slides looked awful. Step up, people, not good enough. - other staff, such as at the breakfast, were also very short on polite words. - the room was very hot, even with the ventilation on full. On the other hand, the hotel has good wifi, was clean, and is located right on a forest area with great paths for running. The breakfast and conference breaks were very good. I suspect that heavy-handed management sucks the joie de vivre out of the staff and they then radiate this negative energy further. It's probably not their fault.

Dear Tim, thank you for your assessment. I will talk to the reservation manager regarding your issues. As you could see by check-out you paid the conference-price. The second reservation was cancelled before arrival. Regarding the beamer and the air condition I will contact the maintenance department. Furthermore we will install a new AC in August. Sorry for my colleagues, that the didn't have lots of words for you. I will discuss that in our next meeting of the heads of department. Hope to see you again in our house. If you need assistance for your next booking, please contact me directly. max.ormanns@Leonardo-hotels.com. I will take care regarding a good price and a free upgrade. It would be very pleasant, if you could remove the assessment as compensation. Kind regards Max Ormanns Guest relation
