One of the joys of staying at somewhere like the Devon Wine School is the anticipation of reliving the experience with a TripAdvisor review. My husband and I stayed here in January 2011. We needed a place to stay in the area for one night prior to shooting. The Devon Wine School was recommended to us by the owners of... More

This was our first time here and every hope was exceeded! Alastair and Carol's attention to detail and hospitality were second to none and we would recommend to anyone interested in learning about wine or even for just a great, relaxing weekend away. The accommodation and food were superb, the wine course fantastic and unpretentious - we will be coming... More

My wife arranged the introductory wine course as a birthday treat, it was excellent! Informative, fun, great food, lovely wine and Alastair and Carols hospitality was first class. We will be back for more! Tony & Stephanie By the Bay Lyme Regis More

I have been treated to a week-end visit to the Devon Wine School by my wife as a 65th birthday present. What can I say but, WOW. The accommodation, food and location are absolutely superb. It may be tucked away in the depths of Devon but definately worth seeking out. Alastair offers a numerous and varied selection of wines for... More

Thank you very much for your review. We really enjoy the wine part of our business. It is great to have people come and share what is a beautiful location and try a whole range of different wines with good food. I have been in the wine trade for more than 40 years and have no pretensions about it -... More

The Devon Wine School is run by Alastair & Carol. Their home is immaculate and they've paid great attention to every detail. Every room is a wow! and it was easy to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Alastair is a great host and knows his wines without any pretence or lording it over those less-experienced. Carol is a great cook,... More

A wonderful welcome. Terrific food in delightful surroundings. A little bit of heaven with a bedroom to die for. Cannot recommend it enough. Great dinner there on our first night and we ate at the Cadleigh Arms on our second night - food is great there too. More

I booked up a wine tasting weekend at the Devon Wine School back in January for my husband's birthday, which we went on last weekend. We were both looking forward to it and were not disappointed. In fact, our expectations were greatly exceeded! The winding country lanes to get to the property are amazing and it's a very pretty area.... More

Carol and I are thrilled when our guests enjoy their experience here with us and it makes everything we do so worthwhile. We love this part of Devon and we love to share it with our guests. We are down the end of some very narrow winding lanes and yet just 20 minutes from Exeter and 25 minutes from the... More

We have just returned from a weekend at the Wine School whose name may suggest tedious classes exploring wine history and geography but nothing could be farther from the truth. The trip was a surprise for my friend's 40th birthday and my wife and I travelled independently from the birthday boy and his wife. The School is tucked away in... More

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to give us such a thoughtful and comprehensive review, which means a great deal to us. Our passion here is wine and food and we love sharing this - wine is fun, it really is not intimidating or pretentious and it works a treat with our terrific Devon food! More

It's not often that you come across an establishment that you would like to keep to yourself but this is definately one. The hosts offer a friendly welcome and that includes the dogs. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with every imenity and the baths large enough to sink into after a hard days walking. More

Thank you very much, comments from our guests mean a huge amount to Carol and me. We are trying to create something special here in this slightly out of the way spot and reviews like this encourage us and help us to renew our efforts. More

A hidden gem, deep in the Devon countryside. Don't be put off by the wine school 'tag'. It's really a very wonderful restaurant with equally wonderful bedrooms. Alastair's knowledge of wines is available but not overwhelming, which is underscored by a commendably short and yet excellent wine list. It's definitely worth organising a tasting with Alastair (and a few of... More
