According to my friend in Kiel, this hotel was built as a conference hotel for the scientifc institutions in this part of town. It's a new building in a standard anonymous cheap international hotel design, nothing special but I slept well on a comfortable bed, the walls seem to be thick, everything works and is clean. There was no fridge or cooking facilities in my smallish single room, not sure if that is standard or not. Free wireless internet in the rooms and at the desk. There is a bus (and a supermarket, cafe etc) service outside that goes into Kiel and to the railway station, takes about half an hour. Outside, it's mostly suburbs and industrial harbour (no quaint sailing harbour like the name might suggest) The staff were polite and helpful, I speak some German so I didn't try their english. I paid EUR 62 a night inc. breakfast, stayed two nights. This place doesn't have the views of the Maritim (or the expansive breakfast) but costs half the price and is fine for a few days... more
