It is great to look at but has several flaws. For one, for a 5 star hotel it has shockingly few facilities: no pool, no sauna, no gym, etc. Does have a great reading room however. Also like most Paradors I found the desk staff really unhelpful...finding out basic info is like pulling teeth. For example, I asked several hotel... more

I walked the Camino de Santiago from France to Santiago de Compostela; half way along the walk, after having spent days in albergues for pilgrims and little pensions and hotels, I decided to treat myself in the Parador of Léon, which originally was built for the pilgrims. It was an awesome experience. When I got there with my friend, it... more

Just returned from staying at the San Marcos Parador de Leon. It looks wonderful - in fact, as we drew up outside the hotel, I thought we were enterting a historical museum - and the immediate reaction of the staircase winding its way up to the top is quite spectacular. However, as an hotel, it is certainly not of the... more

My wife and I satayed 3 nights in August. we upgraded to an historical room so we overlooked the square and river. However the package included half board with a set dinner menue. Ok for one night but not for 3. Because the hotel is really an historical building there were no public rooms, bars or restaurants for guests. The... more

This is a difficult hotel to review because -- well -- it's great. Of course it's great. It's in a magnificent, historical old building, laden with history and lovingly restored. It's full of function rooms and places of public significance. It is one of the flagship Paradors, supposedly right up there with Santiago De Compostella and Granada. And it was... more

We stayed four enjoyable nights at this hotel. The building and setting are fantastic. Although not as old as the main part of the hotel, the rooms were reasonable, spacious, clean, and had balconies. Although outside the old town, it was an easy 10 minutes' walk away. The parking facilities were excellent and free and was very easy to get... more

It is definitely worth the effort to visit Leon, but is it worth the money to stay at the Parador? My answer would be "No". The view from the front of the building is stunning - no doubt about that. You then find out that your accomodation is in the large "modern" wing which is hidden around the back. In... more

Some friends, my partner and I spent one night at this Parador last February. Paradors in Spain are exclusive 4 to 5 star state-owned hotels, often beautifully set in castle and other historical buildings, sometimes modern, but always - in theory, at least - offering some kind of "encanto" ie something that makes them unique and charming. That should explain... more

A gorgeous hotel in a historically significant town on the Camino de Santiago. During my two previous stays in the city as a pilgrim, I had been in one of the albergues so I jumped at the chance to stay in the parador. Unfortunately, we were given rooms in the "modern" part of the hotel that almost completely ruined any... more

This parador has an imposing facade facing onto an imposing square. The public areas inside are majestic as well! But the rooms -- although not shabby or worn -- are on the fourth floor -- and there is a vague feeling of claustrophobia. Everyone seemed to be sent up there -- and seemed a little puzzled as to why... Breakfast... more
