Staff are very rude once you ask for something...like a bit of hot water for tea. Bathroom had no ventilation and windows don't really open so it was not a comfortable situation. Sound proofing was terrible. At seventy euros it's acceptable at best, anything more than that is a ripoff. More

A very nice hotel, good location, near the Metrostation Paral´lel. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was good, quite varied continental. We booked this hotel way back in September based on previous TA reviews and importantly a really good price for a 4 star hotel. We stayed at the Universal for 5 days as a birthday treat, and were not disappointed with the trip, or the hotel. The hotel is near the main street of La Rambla in Barcelona, luckily by the fact that in the immediate vicinity, it's quiet and peaceful. There is free internet without limits. Nice, 'looks brand new' hotel. The place is super clean and the staff are beyond helpful. You're a short 5-10 minute walk to Las Ramblas or the Port. We stayed 5 nights in January, the room was quite small and dark, with no sunlight coming in. Extreamly unconfortable pillows and the boy workig as a doorman was very rude. We chose the coldest weekend in Europe to visit, but not much could be done about that! Some people have complained about noise.
