Staying at Plaza Espana is great way to explore Madrid specially if you are short on time, and this hotel has a great location - close to the metro station. The hotel staff were very helpful and spoke perfect English. The room we got was tight for 2 people though very clean and adequate. If you plan on spending most... more

Hotel El Coloso was rated as a 4 star but for this I would expect to find something along the lines of free bottled water or at least a kettle in the room. Sadly these were missing but apart from this it scrubbed up very nicely. Sara at reception (as mentioned in another review) spoke excellent English so deal with... more

This hotel is near two metro stations (Plaza Espana and San Domingo) set back from the Gran Via (so little traffic noise) and easy walking distance to Puerta del Sol and Palacio Real. The location is ideal as a base from which to explore Madrid. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was expensive but there was a choice of... more

OK it may not come upto a 4 star hotel. I would say probably more of a top end 3 star. Sara (the Receptionist) checked us in last Friday and was very pleasent and spoke excellent English. I had a small problem with the wardrobe (the rail collapsed) in our room but the maintainence guy was there within 5 minutes... more

We had reservations which included the breakfast buffet, they tried to deny it at checkout. We requested a no smoking floor, which they gave us - then with the air conditioning on during the night the smoke started to waft in very heavily. I could not sleep until I turned off the air conditioning and opened a window. The next... more

Not very good English language skills by staff that's working in El Coloso, some of them ignoring objections on WIFI not working - 4 star hotel that has no Internet connection in the rooms, with WIFI no working and only two computers that you have to fight over with bunch of US soccer kids, nor any pool or gym to... more

stayed here just for the one night - there are much better hotels in madrid in roughly the same area, for the same price. took about 20 minutes to check in due to some sort of confusion (no idea what) and when we entered our room we were hit with the most ungodly stink which i can only assume was... more

I was only booked in for one night and this was one too many. The a/c in the room only made a noise but do not perform any other function so I did not get any sleep. The bed was very firm, not too bad for me, but other peole I was travelling with did not like thier beds at... more

*** WARNING – they are currently having building works completed *** We stayed at this hotel for two nights. This hotel is reasonable. The rooms are clean and a good size. The location is good in terms of being off the Gran Via but the road itself is not great. Madrid centre is fairly compact and easy enough to walk... more

hotel is very easy to find via public transport. from the airport take the tube. the tube nearest to the hotel (plaza espagna. please mind my spelling!) is on the same line as the airport, and will cost you less than a couple of euros to get there. saves heaps on taxi costs! the hotel itself is nice. free internet... more
