Do not ruin your trip to the beautiful and interesting town of Cartagena by staying at the Hotel Peninsular at C/ Cuatro Santos 3.
Basically, in the early afternoon, I checked in. Despite the dilapidated décor and unfriendly staff I got a good-sized room with a modern bathroom. Then I settled down for a siesta. But I found it impossible to rest because the chico next door was continually singing (the same song), while his TV blasted out, in what could only be described as a deranged, almost religious, frenzy. Now that’s travellers’ luck. But it was the jefa’s response which appalled me. On my way out later in the afternoon I asked for another room and, once she had finished munching her crisps and turned down her own TV, she told me there were no others (and I doubt that was true since I was not aware of any other guests during my admittedly brief stay).
