Martin & Janice Nash, Hants, England Quirky beyond belief, an absolute masterpiece of architecture, tranquility, good service, great food and the wonderous views, We understand it is being refurbished, lets hope it retains its soul as a result. We can't wait to return. more

my brother and I stated at this grand old hotel in JULY 2002, we were so taken with the view we thought we had died and gone to heaven. We didn't want a five star experience, but rather a true Italian one. The food was great as was the service and staff-we even met the owner who was a charming... more

My friend and I (two American women in our late 40's) stayed here for three nights in 1999. We adored it. We had booked a double room but as it was a bit small for two people and had only a double bed, we enquired about a second room. The staff were wonderful and gave us another room for half-price.... more

I am frankly shocked by the reviews I read of this hotel. We stayed there in October of 2003 for 5 nights. As many noted, the view was tremendous. However, what was lost on the previous viewers was the age and history of Il Cappuccini Convento. The convent was built in the twelth century! The hotel is perched in the... more

as far as i can make it out, it´s now sold and closed. yes, it was a little shabby, eccentric and out of time, whatever this means. but it was also timeless, containing relics of eight centuries and even more, it had style and a unique position in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Food was excellent and... more

I thought I was dreaming! What a unique, breathtaking place! The hotel sits up high on a steep hillside facing the Mediterranean. Our bathroom had 2 very large windows that faced the ocean- when you shower, you can look right out over the city and ocean. It was amazing! It also had 2 great patios to relax on. I don't... more

Spectacular views, history and lots of character. If that's what you like, it can help make up for the sometimes snippy service of front desk personnel, and the rather disappointing breakfast. We don't expect bacon/eggs/pancakes etc when in Italy, but do expect a little more than a cornetto and toasts. Don't take dinner here, unless it's the first night, and... more

We stayed here 2 nights. The taxi driver warned us we would not like the hotel, which we, at first, disregarded. The service was miserable, the worst we experienced anywhere in Italy. The food was outrageously expensive, yet inedible, quite a feat for Italy. They tried to get us to pay for a bottle of terrible wine that we never... more

The only thing that justifies the 4-star category and the 200 Euros/night for this hotel is the view, which is truly amazing. Everything else is 1-star, including the rooms (crumbling walls, rusting plumbing fixtures, poor hygiene, no air conditioning, no frigobar, not even a shower courtain), service (linen and towels were really awful, old and rough and rotten), breakfast (cafe... more
