With reservation made thourgh Expedia the owner cannot cancel the reservation. If we were overbooked we have to contact Expedia telling them about the problem offering a different accomodation. If the customer doesn't like it, Expedia will find a new accomodation that will suit the customer and the owner will pay for it.
