In planning our Italy trip, Sorrento unfortunately got reduced in our schedule to that of a jump off point down the Amalfi Coast...and in such a situation, this hotel will work for that purpose since it's situated right next to the boat docks. Well me and my school of around 40 people stayed in this hotel for 3 nights before heading to Rome. We were greeted and made very welcome. We got help with all our bags and were issued our rooms. We booked this hotel on internet earlier this year and thought it sounded nice. When we arrived we were positively surprised. The hotel maybe didn´t have the highest standard but the rooms had an acceptable comfort and it is romanticly situated at the harbour. If I was to make a movie about a person who goes to stay at a terrible hotel ... I would stay at the Il Faro to research it. Otherwise, I would avoid this place. Anyone who has seen the movie the Money Pitt with Tom Hanks would be able to associate this hotel with the comedy in the movie.... more

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was very good and started early (7:30am) which allowed us to make the most of our days. The owner was very nice and his staff was very helpful. The ferries to Capri and other Amalfi towns are literally across the street. I more

Il faro is a very old fashioned hotel, could do with a makeover the food isn't great either meals are very poor and in the morning a bread roll yummy no cold meats or anything, water they serve at dinner is tap water, to get the sorrento town there is about 104 steps.
