We saw this hotel listed as the #1 hotel in the world last year in Conde Nast's Travel magazine, so we had pretty high expectations from the beginning. However, believe me when I say I've never had even such high expectations shattered so quickly as at La Scalinatella. We got off the ship at Marina Grande where we were told... more

I just returned from a tour of southern Italy, including 2 nights at La Scalinatella. To be honest, I read the reviews after I had booked the hotel and was beginning to regret my decision. I look back in amazement at these negative reviews. Honestly, the hotel was so beautiful, the room so amazing. Yes, it was extremely expensive, but... more

It was not my first visit to La Scalinatella. I am a Capri fan and to be honest there are many good hotels there. Stangely La Scalinatella gets as many good reviews as not so good ones and I think the latest are undeserved. May be because people had other expectations... La Scalinatella is a beautiful boutique property on Capri´s... more

Stayed here for two nights and you would not pay me to go back. The rooms were fine, certainly not 5 star. The location is fantastic, but then what would you expect on Capri. My main issue would be with the staff, the general staff cleaners etc were fine but the people on reception were the most obnoxious and condescending... more

This hotel is very charming albeit expensive. Downsides: the bathrooms are dated and the pool area a bit cramped. The service is excellent and location can not be beat (just a short walk to shops, restaurants and beach club). We wanted to stay at the JK Place and it was unfortunately booked out completely. We did check out the JK... more

I have read the negative reviews of Scalinatella. They are quite understandable. They are also quite wrong. I would bet that they were written by people who stayed there on one occasion, for no more than a few days. In truth, this is more a private club than a hotel. The staff never changes. Most guests come year after year,... more

my husband and i reserved a jr suite for 6 nights at la scalinatella at E600 per night, very expensive, but we thought a perfect spot to celebrate a 'big' birthday. we had stayed at the quisisana before but opted for the quieter more intimate morgano property on this trip. upon check-in, there was confusion as to when we were... more

He says, “It’s very expensive”, thus suggesting to me not to read reviews other than his. But tell me, would you agree to spend 500 euros (680 $) without inquiring about the hotel you are supposed to staying in? Well, I stayed in the hotel, or rather a nice but expensive boarding house. Nice view, basic breakfast ( 2 croissants... more

Yes it's expensive, but it's a joyous hotel to spend four to five days any summer (especially in September). Two of the other reviewers complained about the lack of number rooms - great, people like you should stay in boring, large hotels with hundreds of staff. Anyone who enjoys Scalinatella, and there are many of us, want small, tucked-away properties... more

I wonder how hotels in Italy get the stars? It's an enigma I cannot solve! Last summer we went to Italy on vacation. We spent 5 days in Rome at the Royal Marcella hotel, a 3 stars hotel we were well satisfied with. The location was perfect for us, the room was immaculate, and the price was unbelievable. We thought... more
