Just came back from Rome and stayed at Hotel Center 1 for 3 nights. The hotel location is off the tail end of the termini in what could be described as a grimey not too touristy area. It is disgraceful that after paying for a booking 9 months in advance (travelling July 2006)a fee is charged for moving the check-in and check-out dates by 1 day with 48 hours of placing the booking and 9 months before travelling. The Center hotel in Rome is a little gem !! Staff always friendly, helpful. Great location near Termini and Cinquecento for public transportation access, great shopping nearby. This hotel was a joke. The hotel was located so close to the tram and bus stop that the rooms shook from 5:30 AM until midnight. The hotel room was supposed be non-smoking, but the employees and management chain smoked non-stop and it fumigated the hotel including the non-smoking rooms.
