Overall, we had a good stay for five nights at Hotel Il Canale. Let me outline some of the pros and then follow that with the cons. PROS: The location is outstanding. It is close to the train station, a quick taxi ride from the airport, a short walk to the main shopping district and the main piazza of the... more
We stayed for 2 weeks at the Il Canale and throughly enjoyed our time there. Bologna is a great city to "work out of" to see this region of Italy. The train station is an easy walk from the hotel and you can comfortably travel to all of the popular sites by train. Bologna itself is a treasure and the... more
Just back from a 4-night stay at this hotel, which was in an excellent situation and well placed in centre of town. Double room was small but adequate, if a little too orange!! Only complaint was of foul smell in bathroom, although this was kept spotlessly clean, as was rest of room. Guess the plumbing is not all it could... more
The Hotel Il Canale is a sweet little hotel that provides good value for money. It is well located in the middle of Bologna on a small side street that looks a tiny bit grim but is very quiet and provides no cause for concern. The rooms seem to vary quite a bit but all of the ones I saw... more
I booked a room at this hotel for three nights through Travelocity. When I arrived, printed confirmation in hand, I was curtly informed that there was no record of my reservation. Even when I explained -- in better-than-average Italian -- that I had guaranteed a room with my credit card and had the confirmation number from a respected internet site... more
Stayed one night on our return from Florence. On the way out we had stayed at the Internazionale down the street - but it's rate for Saturday night was way too dear. Il Canale is a nice hotel, big rooms, an excellent en suite which was spotlessly clean. The hotel is just a few door off Via Indipendenza, down an... more
Stayed one night here in February. Convenient location not too far from the station. Yes the hotel's designers obviously like the colour orange but that gives the place a rather opulent and characterful feel. It may not appeal to the minimalism fetishists, but it'll do very nicely for the rest of us. We liked our bedroom very much. Breakfasts were... more
Hotel was very conveniently located in town but set in a small quiet street. Within walking distance to all the shops and train station. Decor could do with a bit of updating but it does add to the charm. Bathroom was modern and looked like it had been recently refurbished. Breakfast was more than adequate. Tip: Double check which airport... more
This was a lovely hotel with character. It's on the canal. We were in Room 3 - a huge room with high ceilings very picturesque views of the canal from the bedroom and bathroom. The location is perfect - right in the midst of the shops, restaurants, cafes and about 15 minutes walk from the station. The reception staff were... more
