The hotel was a very pleasant surprise in our trip to Lake Como. The view is not to be beat. The rooms were clean and simple and the staff very helpful with advice on restaurants in Varenna. I'm definitely going back. more

After traveling Italy for 3 weeks, this was our last stop. After making the trek to our beautiful room, a taxi ride, short hike to front desk, two funiculars (outside elevators) up the hillside, (not for faint of heart), & one inside elevator, we opened the drapes to see the most spectacular view imaginable of Lake Como and the Alps.... more

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in at the Eremo Gaudio. It was definitely not up to our typical standards. I think three star is a stretch for the rooms and hotel itself, however the views are incredible. We bought a bottle of wine and sat out on the small balcony enjoying the wine and view. Oh boy, is this hotel high up! The views are amazing and it's definitely a one of a kind experience. But if you're afraid of heights, or claustrophobic, for that matter, this isn't the hotel for you. This hotel is on top of a mountain. You drive up this narrow two way windy road to get to the front desk.... more

I loved this little hotel...my room was on the lower level but this was quite high up the hill and had a wonderful vista of the lake spreading out in front of you....the staff are very friendly and very helpful..the room was immaculate and very modern (#18)..had a king size bed and I think a pull down bed on one... more
