I spent a week in Venice early in March. Hotel Doge proved to be nice if somewhat basic place to stay. We booked the Doge Hotel online and stayed only one night (we left and found better lodging) in July 2006. It is situated in a non-tourist area and it is a trek to all tourist sights. We stayed here for two nights and the price was reasonable for Venice. It is only a few, tricky blocks from the main train station but watch out for two bridges - the Scalzi bridge with 40 steps up and 40 steps down and a smaller bridge with only about 8 steps up and down.
