The view from our room, over the Giudecca canal, was wonderful. The hotel's restaurant, La Piscina, was first-rate and having a reservation for the night we arrived--tired and ready to relax--was wonderful. We stayed at Pensione La Calcina in Dorsoduro district of Venice for two nights prior to taking a cruise. For us the location was perfect...quiet but a short walk (15min) to everything. I have stayed at La Calcina twice and enjoyed it on both occasions. Although it is not in the centre of Venice the location is really excellent with a walk to St Marco taking about 15 minutes. We really enjoyed Pensione La Calcina. Quiet & convenient! The staff were very helpful. If you get a vaporetti card (and we recommend it), the Zattere stop is very close. Have just stayed for a second time at La Calcina, we stayed for 4 nights this time. The very best thing about it is having breakfast on the pontoon floating on the Giudecca waterway outside the hotel.
