Its close to a ACTV Venice water ferry stop, making transit to anywhere in Venice, it drops you off at the train station for example. The view from our room, over the Giudecca canal, was wonderful. The hotel's restaurant, La Piscina, was first-rate and having a reservation for the night we arrived--tired and ready to relax--was wonderful. We stayed at Pensione La Calcina in Dorsoduro district of Venice for two nights prior to taking a cruise. For us the location was perfect...quiet but a short walk (15min) to everything. I have stayed at La Calcina twice and enjoyed it on both occasions. Although it is not in the centre of Venice the location is really excellent with a walk to St Marco taking about 15 minutes. We really enjoyed Pensione La Calcina. Quiet & convenient! The staff were very helpful. If you get a vaporetti card (and we recommend it), the Zattere stop is very close. Have just stayed for a second time at La Calcina, we stayed for 4 nights this time. The very best thing about it is having breakfast on the pontoon floating on the Giudecca waterway outside the hotel.
