I have booked the Ca' San Pietro B&B through Venere.com for a long weekend with my girlfriend during the Carnival of Venice. The booking came only a month or two in advance, when it was really difficult to find budget accommodation. I think it was the best possible value for the price paid. The apartment is only a few minutes walk from Via Garibaldi and literally around the corner from the once most important church of Venice, the San Pietro di Castello. It may not be the best base for the typical sightseeing tours (although the vaporetto/water bus lines get you almost anywhere within a few minutes), but it is definitely one of the best locations to blend in with the locals. There is a grocery market, a butcher, a bakery and a few small restaurants in Via Garibaldi, which makes you absolutely independent - if you want, you can use the kitchen of the apartment to cook your own, fresh Italian food in privacy. We will definitely stay there again during another trip to Venice.
