We stayed here last night on 1-week trip to Sardinia. Just walked in a got a double room on third floor with partial seaview.... Overall decent 3-star hotel, nothing to write home about even though I am not so pessimistic about the bathroom as some earlier reviews... Maybe they have updated some... Nice bed and great balcony with evening sun...... more

This hotel doesn't worth the price asked ( 150€ for three + breakfast). We have had to pay before for 3 nights. the room was very small, the bathroom also, the furniture and the bed must be cheap because bad level quality. the sight on the backyard and the neibourgh. The breakfast poor choice. I don't recommand this hotel. more

Fourth and last stop on our trip around Sardinia in 2007, El Balear was conveniently located but a bit pricey. But I can't complain too much, since i did not pre-book. Alghero is one lovely charming town, that is a very interesting cross between Sardinia and Catalunya. Different from the rest of the island, it is distinct in its architecture,... more

My husband and I visited El Balear with a friend for a long weekend in August. The rooms are nice but on the small side and could use some updates. The balcony however was wonderful. Each night after a long day of scuba/touring/laying on the beach, our party shared a bottle of Sardinian wine and enjoyed the ocean views. As... more

My wife and I and a friend spent three nights here at the beginning of October 2007. We found the hotel reasonably priced, well located for the old town, a ten-minute stroll along the sea front, clean, comfortable and generally well run. The staff were helpful and friendly and at reception English was readily understood. We were allocated rooms on... more

I would say this hotel has one of the best locations in Alghero - well positioned for the historic town/bars/restarants. 3/4 min walk along sea front to town, 5 min walk to port, 10 min walk to beach. Safe walk back at night - well lit, etc. Friendly staff, bar service with outdoor terrace seating. Spacious room with large balcony... more

This hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. The tacky room furniture, poor plumbing and thin bedroom doors through which we could hear other people's TVs and conversations contributed to a less than successful stay. (The party walls are solid enough, though.) The view from our bedroom window was of a block of rundown flats. How this hotel merits the... more

Yes, this hotel "cuts costs" as a recent reviewer, too, felt. Light bults are of minimal wattage, making the rooms gloomy; no shampoo (surprising for a 3 star hotel) or tissues; and indifferent staff attitude. The location is excellent but the rooms just adequate, nothing more. more

Stayed here for one night. We had to wait an hour and a half for our room and once we were allowed in we had a great view of the back of some buidlings and some cement blocks. Room was ok, clean but nothing special about it. It appeared this business was all about cost cutting, from the breakfast to... more

The El balear is a lovely hotel just past the old city in Alghero. It is opposite a great little beach (good for swimming) and a good sunbathing area - rocky ocean bed though. It was about a 45 minute stroll from the Lido but you walk through the markets and restaurants at night so a good walk. we did... more
