We stayed at Calagrana for the second time this summer. Alberto the chef produces truly wonderful and original food, and dinner was on a terrace looking out over the beautiful Niccone valley. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the pool is great. Ely and Alberto had excellent recommendations for local sites to visit, and because the number of rooms... more

This was by far the best restaurant that we ate in on our holiday in Italy. We were staying a little distance away but it was well worth the travel. We tried many different restaurants but none compared. We stumbled upon the restaurant on our second night in Italy, we were arrived a little too early but we were directed... more

The swimming pool is on a slope. There is no privacy by the pool the owners daughter and friends are watching your every move and performing water gymnastics a good deal of the time. Do yourself a great favour --book a villa or an apartment. more

This is the second time we have stayed in this area and Clagrana is by far the best restaurant around. We were staying higher up the hill so it was very convenient, but this is a must if you are in the Niccone valley. Homemade pasta, homebaked breads, fresh produce from their small farm and an excellent chef. The wine list is... more

We travelled with another couple and were looking for a place to stay to experience Umbria and Tuscany. Calalgrana fit the bill entirely. It is located on a hill overlooking a lovely valley. Umbertide is about 10 minutes away by car and has shops and restaurants if you want a night away from Calagrana but we did not feel the... more

Travelling with a group of 11 other artists and an instructor, Calagrana was the last stop of our two-and-a half week workshop/tour of Italy. Hectic days in Rome and Florence spent hurrying to 'see it all' and several days in Assissi with day trips for painting and sightseeing were capped off with a three-day stay at Calagrana. The slower pace... more

Food, just a little out of the ordinary but always wonderful. Fabulous views, relaxed atmosphere, a real treat. Plenty of room to eat al fresco in the summer and a cosy woodburning stove in the winter. Small but choice menu that changes regularly. Good wines. Comfortable, stylish accommodation. All at reasonable prices. more

Was taken to this atmospheric restaurant by friends who live nearby but nothing they said prepared me for the quality and style of the food we ate. And the most amazing value given the freshness of ingredients and the consumate skill of the chef. I later learned he trained in Milan and ran a big kitchen in London before buying... more

The owners of the Calagrana formerly ran a great restaurant in London, so we were keen to sample the food at the Agriturismo. Our stay exceeded all expectations. The wonderful regional cooking, using local produce, is reason enought to stay here, but it also provides an excellent centre for touring, walking and cycling. Rooms are "rustic", thoughtfully decorated and comfortable,... more
