My family and I visited the Hirschen over Christmas 2006 for 7 nights. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. We had three rooms as there was 6 of us. Breakfast is tradtional Swiss style ham and cheese with plenty of yoghurt and fresh fruit salad. Attentive service and good coffee.
Great location up a steep path from the station - get a taxi (15CHF) up from the station when you arrive. First few times walking up its a bit breathless but after a couple of days your glad its out of the main high street and outside the slopes from Wengenalp. The lower slopes of Wengenalp run right past the front of the Hirchen. Our room had a balcony to the front, I would open the doors at about 0700 only to be greeted by a friendly Jack Russel dog in the chalet garden opposite, After a few days I'm sure he was just sittting there waiting for me to come out.
