We stayed at the Montarina when we were in Lugano. Extremely convenient location when travelling by train. About 7-10 minutes walking from Lugano Train Station. However be warned that there is a steep slope to climb. Something to keep in mind if travelling with heavy luggage. While the location, grounds and rooms are lovely, if you are unlucky enough to have a room adjacent the lobby, you will not sleep. Every sound in the lobby and from outdoors reverberates in the high ceilinged rooms. The staff are unfortunately not very sympathetic either. Earplugs are an absolute must, or this is a no-go.
