Location: A bit far off from the train station. At least 15 min walk. Call 167 (free) and get the Hotel Astoria staff to send a cab down. Think it costs 10CHF. Plus is that it is less than a min walk to the bridge with the most famous view of the Matterhorn from the town. Remember to watch the... more

I took a family skiing holiday in this hotel from the 31st January to the 6th february. We had a great time here and you really cannot fault the service. I shared room 104 with my brother, which is on the other side of the hotel to the dreaded bar. We could hear very little noise on this side of... more

We stayed at the Hotel Astoria from January 24th through the 31st. Our room was quite large and comfortable. Andrea and Birgit at the front desk are extremely friendly and helpful. Antonio kept us entertained in the dining room and felt like an old friend. Martelis, the owner, made us feel at home and made sure that everything was taken... more

Just returned after a 6 night stay in room 301 at the Hotel Astoria. We had read reviews about room 101 but didn't believe that we could possibly be effected in room 301 by the noise. How wrong we were. The floor and the wooden rafters shook with every bass from the band and the disco until 2am every night,... more

The decor of the hotel is dated but is very clean and not worn. We had a junior suite room, which was spacious, the beds were super comfy and fine for a ski holiday. All of that is fine and would have scored an average on 'overall experience' were it not for the amazing staff.......the bar/restaurant manager, Antonio, was very... more

At first we weren't impressed because the room was very dark and the hotel looked quite old. However, the staff were very helpful; coming to the room to help us figure out how to turn on the lights (didn't know there was a master switch) and placing extra blankets in our room when we thought it was going to be... more

Noisy? Not at all! I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. Last winter we booked with our group the Hotel Astorai, and for me it wasn't noisy at all! We had quite a big room with television and it was very clean too. (Even my wife couldn't complain :-) ) The food was excellent and the staff... more

We booked at the Astoria because it was the only room available in Zermatt, and we were placed in room 101 right over Papperla Pub. When other reviews say it can be noisy they are understating the problem - the windows rattled with every bass beat and it was unbearable until 1a.m. I am sure it was the same for... more

The Astoria Hotel is not an exceptable place for a ski club to stay because the dining area is split is half and small. There is really no lobby where people can meet and socialize. Antonio, the head waiter and mixologist is wonderfully attentive and friendly. The day time receptionists were also friendly and helpful. The location is excellent in... more

The room we stayed in was big & clean but located above a pub. very noisy up to midnight - no one to complain to in reception (not staffed at night). When we checked out, the owner claimed that there is nothing to be done about it. conclusion: ask for a room away from the pub when booking. more
