First off, I would still recommend the Amstel and would most probably stay there on my next trip to Amsterdam but, sadly, it simply isn't as good as it was! This could partly be that I have become more spolt over the years but I did find the service a bit lack-lustre this trip, as if the hotel staff have... more

My wife and I had a one-night stay in April. The canal view was atmospheric; the location is far enough, but not too far from the madding crowds and the room was everything you could expect from a top-tier property. more

For any high tea buff out there, the Amstels version of high tea is very pricey (40 euro per person to be exact) for what you'll get and if you're expecting something like tea at the Ritz or anything at all similar - then this isn't it. This is what you'll get per person for 2 people: 6 cups of... more

I have visited Amsterdam many times and stayed in most of the top rated hotel but the Amstel is by far the best...It is a classically designed and furnished with almost museum like attention to detail...Rooms are spacious and the hotel has good business and fitness facilities...For a Continental European Hotel and the service fom the staff and concierge team... more

It was one of the best hotels, which I have seen. Huge wardrobe, great oldstylish disayn, nice decor and view to the river. Servis is exellent. Very tasty breakfest in room, amaizing bathroom. Only one problem - all rooms are non-smoking. Can reccomend for sweet weekend :-) more

This is a world class hotel with amazing service. Perfect for the business traveler or a couple getting away for a few days. From the Michelin restaurant to the rooms all with sunflower shower heads - it's all the best. The staff are highly trained and provide impeccable service. (The only exception was the staff in the atrium where ordering... more

The Amstel is a beautiful hotel of great quality. Rooms and public areas are impressive and the staff is really great, especially the concierge. The location is beautiful however a little bit inconvenient if you want to see Amsterdam. more

One of the most pleasant features of this hotel is that there are few rooms compared with the amount of public space, so that the hotel mostly feels quiet and peaceful. The comprehensive national smoking ban in effect since 1 July 2008 has taken care of what used to be a huge discomfort for the non smoking guests. The rooms... more

The good: The Amstel Hotel is a great hotel and is probably the best known hotel in the Netherlands. The building is beautiful and location is great if you are looking for a more quit area on the canals. Management has done a great job with the staff in recent years. These days staff is very friendly and attentive. Great,... more

The hotel is sensational (huge rooms, great service, great view) but in a terrible location if you're there to sightsee or otherwise enjoy the canal zone. Also no alternatives to the amazingly overpriced Intercontinental breakfast - more on that later. It's just too far away - can't walk, and you have to take two trams get back to the hotel... more
