We had stayed at the Chateau three years ago in a suite in the converted stable block - it had been an excellent stay at a vibrant hotel, and we were looking forward to returning.
This visit we were shown to a room in the Chateau itself. It was spacious with a four-poster bed and large bathroom. On inspection, the faded chic was actually just shabby. For example, the bathroom curtain was just a large square of fraying towelling and the many ring marks on the dresser indicate neglect rather than age.
A friend from Luxembourg joined us for an excellent dinner - however, we were the only people dining so created our own atmosphere. It transpired that my husband and I were the only residents that evening. To be honest, to be the only people sleeping in a deserted chateau was not a particularly pleasant experience.
Breakfast was the usual breads, pastries etc.
