Our visit was booked and fully paid for but when we arrived at hotel we were told they had accepted booking from a larger party and had booked us into Gravensteen Hotel. We asked for taxi but were told it was 5 mins away, so 1 80 year old, 3 seventy+ year olds and 1 almost 70 had to cart... more

The pictures on the web site are deceiving. The place is a monastery that was never renovated. The rooms are spartan. The beds are uncomfortable. The hallways were very cold (February). The meeting room was good, though again heat was a problem. One staff member was great, the rest were not so interested in customer service. The place needs a... more

*I was kept awake from 4.30am onwards on the Sunday morning by drunken men running up and down the corridors of the hotel shouting and stamping their feet. Twice I called the hotel reception to alert them to this fact but it continued. When I went to breakfast there were half naked men leaning out of the windows of the... more

There seems to be a fair number of reviewers who did not rate this hotel, I had a different experience and perhaps a different room to other reviewers. Opted for one of the comfortable rooms by dealing with the hotel direct. It was a huge room at a very decent price - 4 times the size of the one I... more

The hotel Monasterium in ghent enticed me by the lovely pictures on the internet and i liked the idea of staying in a former monastery. But my room was in a simple old building with absolutely no charm whatsoever and not in the monastery. The room was large with gray, spot ridden carpeting. the bathroom had a linoleum floor and... more

We booked a room over three months in advance and asked specifically for a QUIET room. When we arrived we were offered a choice of 2 NOISY rooms, and nothing else available. There was a party going on until late in the chapel so the room either faced this or the main road. The room was very basic and the... more

Scruffy rooms down a long corridor, probably in a part of the building which was not redone since the monks moved. Rooms not at all like pictures suggest. No Internet connection in room. Tried to charge extra for supplements included in the original booking. more

I remember this sweet hotel with great affection two years on (am writing in 2007)- unlike a lot that I've stayed in since. Being a converted nunnery, the rooms are individual and strange but the place has a calm and beauty about it. Don't expect great luxury, rather enjoy something different. that's not too expensive And Ghent is a similarly... more

I stayed here for 3 nights on a weekend to Belgium. I booked through hotels.com and got a rate of $92 per night, no breakfast. Positives: 1) Fairly close to the center of town, well within walking distance, not too far from the tram stop on Oude Houlei. 2) Coffee maker and hairdryer 3) The bathroom was fairly large for... more
