We had two rooms here for three nights between Christmas and New Year. The hotel is really very good, it is looking a little tired in places and the rooms are quite small and in need of updating (ours had some damp/fungal patches on the ceiling) but the beds were comfortable, there was plenty of hot water and the breakfast was great. It is ideally situated 3 minutes walk from the underground car park and 5 minutes from the market area. If I'm in Bruges again I will very likely stay here again.

The location of the hotel is fantastic. It’s very central, close to everything. The build itself is fantastic, full of traditional features in the main communal areas. The reason for the poor review is a combination of the cost and the quality of the room, lift and hallways which were all very dated and in need of investment. I wouldn’t recommend.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had room 32 which was upstairs, with one window overlooking the garden and another (the bathroom) overlooking the rear street of the hotel. The room was immediately accessed from the lift (literally one step away). First impressions of the hotel in general were great - Jan Brito, converted to a hotel from a grand house in the 1990s, certainly retains its C16th feel with high ceilings and original features. The owners have taken care to maintain its unique heritage. Pluses were the location, the quietness of the hotel, pleasant staff and the size of the bedroom (much bigger than normal) & the roomy, modernised bathroom which included a shower, a separate bath and a good magnifying mirror. Both rooms had plenty of storage space. The bed was spacious, firm and had clean linen. TV had BBC 1 & 2 - a bonus abroad! Breakfast was fine with good choices of cooked and cereals/continental breads etc in lovely dining area, though the self-service area was small so I can imagine it being difficult to negotiate during busy times. Minuses in Room 32 - the shower was lukewarm and had nowhere to put soaps/shampoo so you were bending all the time (I advise taking a shower gel with a hook). The bedroom was quite dark without lights on and needed refreshing. TV straddled 2 pieces of furniture, for example, and I was worried the bathroom handle would drop off, lovely as it was! On balance, I'd definitely recommend the hotel as a place to stay but would opt for a different room. PS: Our bathroom overlooked a small cafe/bagel bar which was popular/vegan friendly & looked enticing. Handy supermarket round the corner for water etc.

Room Tip: Taxis from station 13-15 euros. Sundays in Bruges busy & car-free. Li O Lait Cafe = good...

One of the few hotels in Brugge which accepts dogs! A nice two floors room on the garden, very comfortable with a reasonable price. My son had a room on a different area of the hotel also very beautiful. Breakfast is a very good experience either you like continental or English breakfast. Hotel’s staff is kind and helpful Few minutes away from a public parking and a spot for electric vehicles.

This was a fantastic hotel and one I highly recommend. It is in a great location with the centre of town a few minutes walk away. The beds were extremely comfortable and the room was a great size. I would absolutely stay here again.

A unique hotel in décor and ambience. The perfect place for relaxing before and after enjoying the busy streets of Bruges. My room (29) was very spacious, and clearly had a history that went back a few hundred years. The courtyard is delightful, and it is a joy to sit there. Friendly staff. Good breakfast Room 29 has 29 stairs leading to it - and I think some of the other rooms do to. If you find steps a problem - check when reserving. The Jan Brito experience is worth the effort

All the positive things in the reviews here were true: Lovely rooms with character, perfect location, tasty breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. The Junior Suite was one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in. Thanks to everyone at Hotel Jan Brito for being an important part of our wonderful trip to Bruges.

We had the best time staying at Hotel Jan Brito. On arrival the staff were fantastic and the building and rooms are stunning. The hotel is in the perfect location and our room was lovely. Comfy, clean and welcoming after a long day exploring Bruges. Would definitely love to stay again.

This is the best hotel, a gem of a place walking distance from the market square and the Belfry in Bruges. First off, I dont think we even had the most expensive room by a long shot and it was the most character filled, sizable (huge) and quaintly cute and gorgeous room. It was on the second floor adorned by massive vaulted ceiling with the characteristic wood beams that I’m sure were ancient as the building itself (at least original to when the building was first built). The bathroom is massive too, there is so much space in this place and was a welcome change from the typical small boutique hotel room you find in the same price range. The decor was perfectly sparse and so very tasteful and retained the old world charm of the building that makes you fall in love with Bruges in the first place. The building itself is old and the decor in the main areas of the hotel pay tribute to its history, but has its modern amenities with a lift as well which you don’t find too often In Protected historic hotels sometimes in Europe. The owners are so amazing nice helpful and friendly…you can ask Betty and her family anything and they’ll bend over backwards to help you and they’re the nicest people you could meet. And the personal touch they deliver is pretty much the icing on the cake. I also know there is a beautiful courtyard which sadly we did not see as we were only there for a night but the whole experience there left a major impact on us both, and this will be our home base when we definitely come back to Bruges!

Excellent location adjacent to market square. We came for the xmas market which to be honest was a bit disappointing and expensive, mostly food stalls. The hotel is old worldy but charming, clean and a very nice breakfast. The star of this hotel is Betty, a lovely helpful welcoming lady, thank you for the laughs we had.
