We stayed for 3 nights in December & found the hotel great for the price. Beds were comfy breakfast ( Bacon & Eggs & the other usual things ) great. The owner is very freindly & goes out of his way to please you. If I was to stay in Ypres again I would certainly stop here. more

What is is about The Shell hole that constantly draws you back? The whole place has the atmosphere of an old estaminet just behind the lines. We have been to Ypres many times and... more

First, the good--fairly clean although considerably small and sparce; full English breakfast, although toast was burnt; good location with a short walk to the town center and gate Problems--The rooms are your typically small, cramped European rooms for this class of accommodations, but much dingier and poorly lit than most. The floors are filthy, thus be sure to take flipflops... more

Four of us stayed at the Shell Hole (2 of whom travel a great deal), and definitely would not recommend it. Whilst the bedrooms themselves were clean, although cramped, the stairwell smelled like it hadn' t been aired in years - this may well be because a door to the rather dingly (and empty) bar below opened onto it, but... more

The Shellhole Hotel located in Ypres is a totally fabulous place to stay. The hosts, John & Christine, go out of their way to make you welcome and feel part of the family. If luxury is what you're after, then forget it. But if you want a reasonably priced hotel, that offers clean accommodation, friendly service and budget prices then... more
