Having climbed the narrow stairs to the first-floor reception area our first impression was of the smoky atmosphere however, having negotiated a warren of spotlessly clean steps and corridors we were pleased to find that the non-smoking double room that we had booked smelt far fresher. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the street and, although small was clean and cheery with the furniture painted and decorated in the Alentejo style that seemed to be used throughout the hotel. There was a small bathroom, air-conditioning and a television with local channels. During the evening rush hour many vehicles passed through the narrow street below with the noise from each one echoing up to our room however there was very little traffic at night and we slept well. A basic breakfast was included in the price. If you want simple accommodation in the city centre at a reasonable price this might well prove suitable.
