Stayed at the Balaia Village a couple of years ago and found it to be a lovely relaxing holiday. As most of the apartments are owned I assume it's pot luck as to how well appointed/equiped your rooms are but we had air conditioning, a full kitchen and a washer and dryer.
The grounds are beautifully kept and there are several very nice pools and we didn't have any problem getting sunbeds, but then we did go in June before the peak European season.
The on-site restaurant was ok, we ate there several nights and they had theme nights such as bbq, portuguese etc. which were good value. If you're after fine food you'll have to venture a bit further afield though.
There was a fairly basic kids club run by the Balaia Village rather than any particular Holiday company. It was only on for a few hours a day but gave parents a bit of a break and the quality of the activities no doubt varies depending on who they have running it.
