Self catering accommodations, I did not rent a car, but travelled almost every day on public buses. Saw the whole island that way. Also whale watching. Felt very safe. The hotel is a little difficult to find the first time, but it has a good location. Very clean. Not a "typical" hotel, but a very pleasant stay. more

Our stay at Cassa Vitoriana was a very enjoyable one. The house was very cozy and very clean. Close to everything in downtown Ponta Delgada. Margarida was very gracious and also very informative. Had a great time! more

I stayed as a lone female traveller in one of the modern garden flats and felt really at home. As a cat lover, the cats enhanced that feeling! I felt safe walking around the streets despite some of the area feeling run down and had a pleasant time. There is a lovely park at the back of the block and... more

I stayed at Casa Vitoriana (www.casavitoriana.com) in June 2009 for three nights. The experience was really nice and memorable. I have travelled in over 40 countries all over the world, so I've seen quite a few accommodations. The house was built in 1860s and it is still owned by the same family. The interior has been kept in original look... more

We stayed here at the recommendation of our friend Roberto Soares, and were not disappointed a bit! We stayed in the Garden Cottage and at times didn't even realize we were in the middle of the city. The cottage was beautifully appointed with a well-equipped kitchen. Everything we needed was within walking distance. Two small downsides for us is that... more

My husband and I have stayed twice at Casa Vitoriana: once 10 days in 2007 and once 5 weeks in 2008. We are artists from Boston and could work on our art there as well as relax. We are looking forward a third stay this year (2009). Margarida's house is comfortable, the garden beautiful. The rooms are spotless clean and... more

We rented the suite and a garden apartment for a week and found it a very useful base for the centre of town. The suite: the rooms were massive but the (private) bathroom was across the hall (across very creaky floorboards). Also, the landlady seemed a bit keen on religious icons which were all over the house (including above the... more

If you're looking for a place that will give you the feeling of actually living in the city this is the place. The main house is large and ornate - the ceiling very high, the rooms large and comfortable, grand staircases and wide verandas, a large courtyard and garden. It's a place that just exudes comfort and relaxation. You get... more
