we recently stayed at this hotel whcih has an incredible history. It has two kinds of rooms: one is the ultra cool modern designed by a famous Portuguese architect, and the other is part of the old mansion and gives you old world charm. But beyond this was the most fabulous meal of all of our meals over 8 days... more

This hotel has an interesting history and atmosphere. It is clean and comfortable and meals were tasty (albeit the expensive dinner). If you are going to Coimbra to do some sightseeing, then this place might not be for you. It is not necessarily close to the old town. If you want to visit a unique place, then this is the... more

We were probably unlucky to find Quinta Das Lagrimas in a low season period, BUT: a) our room was very, very cold, and the bathroom even colder, and nothing happens following our compliant; b) no Internet connection in rooms, but only in the lobby; c) the location was probably wonderful (even if far from downtown Coimbra) some years ago, before... more

My husband and I ended up in this quaint town randomly when we were driving to Porto. It is a college town that dates back to a very very long time. A truly beautiful historic town. We needed a place to stay because we were tired and it was raining. We came upon this hotel and boy were we happy.... more

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of the tour. The public areas in the main building are absolutely stunning with large rooms, high ceilings and period furniture and we fervently hoped our room would be in this section. Sadly we were put in the garden wing where the cheaper rooms are, but this was only to be... more

Relais Chateaux? I don't think so. Our trip to the Hotel Quinta Das Lagrimas was the classic bait and switch. Drawn in by images of the beautiful 18th century villa, we were insteaded unceremoniously shunted off to the "new building". The "new building" is a euphemism for dormitory, because the new building appears to be a . . . dormitory.... more

We stayed 3 nights as part of a self-drive tour of Portugal. We stayed in the main Palace, which I would recommend. The room was beautiful, as was the rest of the Palace public rooms. We also walked round the romantic gardens, which were lovely. They also have a pitch & putt course which we did not use, but did... more

I have to say that I really can't fault our three night stay here. Having read the reviews below we were prepared for a rather cold reception but it could not have been further from the truth. Both the manager and assistant manager were extremely welcoming and were always on hand to offer advice or suggestions - nothing was too... more

The most outstanding part of this hotel was the service. The assistant manager went out of her way to make us feel welcome, gave us a history of the hotel, along with her impressions of the city (Coimbra) where she had gone to university. I'll always remember the welcoming bottles of water (still and sparkling, and more importantly complimentary), and... more

My overriding memory of Quinta das Lagrimas will be the amazing Michelin-starred Arcadas da Capela restaurant attached to it, rather than the hotel itself. Location seems to be a recurring theme amongst reviewers of this property, so let's deal with that first. It is some distance from the city centre, and its immediate surroundings of some down-at-heel, low-rise blocks of... more
