This is the first time I've been prompted to review a hotel - and all because I had such a great stay here. Rooms were large and spotless for an impressively low price. Hotel staff went out of their way to make my stay a good one. Pool area blissfully relaxing and well equipped. Had the grilled chicken as recommended... more

My wife and I enjoyed a week at the Pica Pau in June 2009. The hotel was quiet, with only around ten rooms occupied most of the week. Our room was on the second floor, with a standard layout of two single beds, bath with shower over, plentiful wardrobe space, and cable TV. No air conditioning, but an electric fan... more

We have just returned from the Pica Pau .We have stayed there many times and want to note the great improvements in the hotel. Sue and her team tare most helpful.Nothing is too much trouble. From arranging to have Senor Rodriges waiting at the airport to Pedro spending time to explain each item on the menu. The hotel has been modernised... more

Stayed for 5 nights in Sep 2008. As previous reviews stated we found the hotel and the staff excellent. The rooms were a good size, clean and had air conditioning. The food for breakfast and in the hotel restaurant was very good (try the chicken piri piri). The pool was a very good size with plenty of sun lounges. Nothing... more

We have just returned from 9 nights at the Pica Pau and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Prior to arrival, Susan, the co-owner, had arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the airport in Lisbon. We were in a lovely light room, 110, with a balcony . The breakfast was very good and we found the staff to be... more

I have been to Cascais / Estoril many times to see an old school friend who has lived there for 15 years and I have never had a bad time. This hotel is small and very pleasant with a pool and reasonable en suite rooms. Owned by a relative of my friends' partner the hotel is well maintained and relatively... more

We were not disappointed with our 8 night stay at the Pica Pau. Room kept spotlessly clean as was the swimming pool. Ideal location for train station 7-10 mins walk and beach 5 mins. Leisurely 20 min walk to Cascais along the promenade. With advice from Pedro and Susan we took local buses to Sintra without any problem. Fares very... more

After reading all the great reviews for Pica Pau we booked a 3 nights stay. Upon arrival we were greeted very friendly. However, the room (316) was quite drab. The mattress was really lumpy and sagged in the middle - impossible to sleep well. Furthermore the old cupboard smelled musty and just about everything was very outdated and seemd very... more

Just back from a couple of nights at the Pensao Pica Pau. While by no means a luxury hotel, it was very comfortable and close to a nice beach (about 5-10 mins walk). Cascais - more lively than Estoril - is about a 20-30 minute walk along the beach. The hotel has a well-kept pool (unheated) and jacuzzi, surrounded by... more

Found this hotel via tripadvisor and was not disappointed. Pica Pau is a great hotel, we recently stayed there as a group of six friends in four rooms and we were given a whole wing to ourselves. Rooms are fine, nice tiles, no airconditioning but lovely big windows and balconies. Fantastic pool area and very reasonably priced restaurant. The salmon... more
