We looked to book an apartment in Lisbon through a well known online booking site. We found this property and booked in. We had a great response from the owners, especially Joanna who was so attentive to our needs. Every step of the way from booking to arriving was no trouble for her, the advice and information she sent to us was excellent. We arrived at Lisbon airport looking for the best way to get to the apartment, and we took the aerobus Not the best start, this drops you in different parts of town depending on where you are staying, but to get to orange 3 house use the metro, you can then walk up a gently sloping street to the top of the furnicular, turn left, down a steep street and left again. The route is pretty straightforward. Warning, here, if you like to be in a quiet backwater where there is no life, no interest and no atmosphere, you better look elsewhere! This district is humming with life. The funicular is a national monument, rattling meters from your windows, with all the charm and brilliance of the city itself. The welcome... Joanna gave us so much information when we arrived, she explained about transport and travel, some things to go to, some to avoid! The apartment itself was spotless, it felt brand new, light clean and tidy, the pictures do not do it justice. Why here,? Because it is so close to the heart of the City, an fantastic district and lovely people. Getting around, use a top up card if you can, it makes things cheaper per trip. The funicular is a particularly goo ride, but excellent when you have tired legs! The buses are a treat, they go everywhere, and just swipe on. The 15E tram is the best way to Belum, get it just near the railway station, tis is a modern tram. The old rattle trams can be uncomfortable, and we found the number 28 tram a bit of a chore to be honest, hold on tight and avoid pickpockets.... Belum is great, the queues are legendary though, and if you visit the monastery, the tower and the pastry shop. you better be prepared to spend the whole day! Take a boat trip too, we used the "sailing boat" for a river cruise, it was lovely, the lads who took us were very welcoming, even to the extent of a nice glass of white wine! All for 25 euros. Great values for money. Likes.... Food, drink, especially sangria, the pizza geletaria at Belum, Cherry wine shots, and of course our accommodation. Metro and buses, general atmosphere and shops. Churches, cafes, pretty much everything. Dislikes, No 28 tram, Those daft custard tarts, queuing at the belum sites. Altogether our favourite City break, and our best ever hosts. Thanks again Joanna, just keep a place free for us when we are returning!!!…
