We booked 5 nights with this lovely hotel through reading the Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. On arrival we were greeted with a good old fashioned welcome by a lady who was full of warmth and charm and always eager to help, as were other staff members. Our room fronting the main street was squeaky clean as was... More

How refreshing it is to find such a hotel in this day and age. Although we had problems booking, due to language problems, on our arrival, Maria (aka Christina) the owner, sorted everything out immediately, and combined with the fact that it was our 40th wedding anniversary, graciously gave us an upgrade at no extra charge. What must have once... More

My husband chose this hotel for its old world charm, and location. We were greeted by the owner who gave us a choice of rooms; we decided on Room 109, with its four poster bed and a bath (and bidet) on the first floor. You got to it through the little library with its large candelabra. Our window looked onto... More

Having lived in Lisbon we weren´t looking forward to visiting the city and having to stay in a hotel, but this hotel made us forget all this. First of all it is centrally located and everything is pretty much within walking distance. From Avenida Liberdade to Principe Real to Santa Catarina to one of Lisbon´s most famous neighborhoods Bairro Alto,... More

We stayed in Lisbon in May 2011 as we were going to the Moto GP in nearby Estoril. We had actually booked in to another hotel nearby but it was awful. We were a little worried as is meant we would have to try and find something quickly ( my husband and i don't like to do things last minute... More

This is a very reasonably priced hotel, well located within easy walking distance of the fascinating Bairro Alto district in Lisbon. The hotel is located in an historic mansion. Fortunately, it has not been modernized in the antiseptic, chrome-plated way so many older hotels in Europe seem to have been in the past 10 years. It is perfectly comfortable for... More

This was a great place with just a few caveats. The staff was very helpful, nice and willing to go out of their way to make it a good stay. The location was fine, the breakfast nice and the overall ambiance was very enjoyable. The only negative about the place is we thought the beds were a bit hard and found... More

Casa de São Mamede is almost a second home for me. I lived there for many years as many other artists, writers, actors. But since then it has been renovated for the best. In the last decade, while organizing Doclisboa International Film festival I always insisted that our special guests (film directors, film critics, photographers, people with good taste) would... We booked this hotel based off positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We were looking for a boutique hotel in Lisbon that would provide a little charm and romance. Pros: Great location just above the Barrio Alto, near the Principe Real and several metro stops. Easy to get into the action of fun neighborhoods very quickly. Accomodating service- we had trouble with... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"Casa de Sao Mamede" is a small family hotel (26 rooms). Built in the XVIIIth century as the residence of a magistrate. This beautiful building has maintained all the charm of an old family home. It is one of the first buildings to be constructed in the traditional system of "birdcage" - earthquake proof construction used after earthquake of 1755. Having been adapted to a hotel unit in 1948 it knew how to keep throughout the years, the treatment, the tradition and the atmosphere of a true family house. Always trying to preserve the past we did not relinquish however the comfort requirements that contemporary life demands so all the rooms have: private bathroom, telephone, digital safe, satellite television, double glass and air-conditioned with individual command. The fact that we're dealing with a small hotel type unit allow us to grant a more personalized treatment to each customer. ... more   less
