Official Description (provided by the hotel):: The Pousada do Castelo was created in 1951 in Óbidos Castle — one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal, thus becoming the first to be adapted, restored and converted into one of the most beautiful Historic Pousadas in the country.The building, erected by D. João de Noronha at the beginning of the 16th century, retains its major details: the Manueline-style windows, the Portal de Verga Golpeada adorned with twisted tree trunks topped by the shield and coat of arms of the Noronhas. But above all, tales and stories remain, such as the story of its rebuilding after the 1755 earthquake. Stories that make us wish to discover more about this medieval scenario, ideal for getting away from stress. Stories which after your visit will become your own. Stayed in the room which is in fort walls and enyoyed the great views. Staff at hotel very helpful. Was at hotel during chochlate festival. Hotel rooms very comfortable and well designed. Able to walk to shops in restaurants in Obidos.

“Castle Fit for a Queen”

This was my second visit and in 15 years the property has only gotten better. The rooms are comfortable, the staff top rate, the food wonderful and the view spectacular. The village is charming with many more English speaking people than last time. I would definitely recommend this property and would stay there again myself.
