Large 19th century house, filled with old madeiran furniture and a few mod cons. A real taste of the past, with Emilia (Vitorina's cousin) looking after us as if we were visiting relatives. It's clear from the visitors book that people from all round the world come back here again and again.
The rooms and bathrooms were spotless and fresh bread delivered each morning for breakfast in our room. We don't like hotels, but prefer not to do full-on self catering, so this was perfect for us. Sea views to the front and mountain views to the back.
Fantastic location, in the heart of Funchal's old town - the other end of town to "Tourist Town". We stayed in two of the rooms (we exended our stay and so had to swap rooms), but got a chance to see the tower room at the top - check thisout, if available, for fantastic light and views. There were also a couple of flats- good for familes and those who like to cook for themselves.
Excellent value too - 40 euros...
