A two week holiday at this hotel found the food wanting in that it was very repetitous. Breakfast was fine providing that you got 'down' early and as has been said in other reviews was not restocked. Just come back for a week with my wife in Madeira and stayed at the Pestana Bay. We found the whole hotel was very clean, especially the bedrooms which were spotlessly cleaned every day. The location was a bit of a problem, as it is a long walk into Funchal but the hotel does run hourly busses into the town.... more

The hotel was clean and well-run. The staff was excellent, friendly and efficient. However, all rooms face the sea which was so thunderous that we could not sleep. The pool is ornamental and unsuitable for swimmers. The location of the hotel is isolated and at the base of a steep hill - I defy anyone to walk from the hotel... more
