1. The Santa Isabel is situated in a fairly busy area at the Western end of Funchal. 2. Hotel is clean but old and it shows. Interior is mainly of dark wood giving an all round gloomy effect. One fully expects Hercule Poirot to appear at any moment in the corridors. 3. Can be noisy at night with the windows open. 4. No air conditionning.5. There are no comfortable public areas in which to sit quietly and relax.6. The lifts may cause some concern - they do not have interior doors.7. Very friendly and helpful staff.8. Breakfast is buffet style. It is adequate but the menu is the same every day.9. Easy downhill walk into central Funchal but it can be a bit of a slog walking back.10. Taxi rank and bus stop just outside hotel.11. Some good restaurants nearby.12. The big plus is that residents of the Santa Isabel have full use of all facilities at the excellent five star Savoy hotel which is just next door. more
