We picked this hotel for its consistently good reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. The staff were extremely helpful and always took the time to answer our questions. Ours was a cheaper room with a view of the Estrada Monumental (sorry, "mountain view"), although the road was fairly quiet at night and did not disturb our sleep. Breakfast was... more
on checking in we found that other guests had sea views like us without paying the 100 pound surcgharge!!!what a rip off!!!!the receptionist couldnt move me to a different room for 2 days!!!!but they were not even 50 percent full!!!fernandino the pool attendant was most unhelpful but he has become jaded as he is there 18 years!!!! fransisco and ishmael... more
This was our first package holiday, and first time in Madeira. The Baia Azul is right at the Westernmost point of Funchal's seafront. Like many of the hotels it is large and a bit anonymous, decorated in a style I would call The Shining meets Folkestone circa 1958. But don't be put off. It is a fantastically comfortable place, the... more
Would highly recommend the Baia Azul. We booked a five night short break through Expedia anjd were not disappointed. Most of the reviews we looked at were good and I would add to the positive revews re the Hotel. Good location, and if you book a room with a seaview the view is stunning, so would recommend it. Staff were... more
We had a pleasant and relaxing 8 day stay at this slightly faded/dated 4*. Staff at the Baia Azul could hardly be more friendly with the gardens/pool kept in good condition and rooms well made up each day but the management need to address certain issues, especially concerning the disappointing breakfasts. The quality of coffee is the worst we had... more
Just returned from this hotel 20/10/08. As most say here the decor/style is dated, but spotlessly clean everywhere. My wife reckons the housekeeping manager runs a 'tight ship'. we were just on b&b and found the buffett very good with the usual eggs and bacon and cheeses/ hams etc, we used the many local restuarants for lunch and dinner. The... more
Lovely hotel, rooms spacious and spotlessly clean. Pool is fabulous with plenty of sunbeds and beautiful views. We stayed B&B breakfast very good plenty of choice. Staff very friendly and helpful and speak excellent English - only one miserable staff member - the towel man at the pool. He's really offhand and bad-tempered and I made a point of mentioning... more
Myself & my boyfriend spent a week in the Baia Azul hotel in September. The hotel was lovely & had magnificant views overlooking the sea. We received a room with a beautiful view. A lot of the reviews about this hotel have mentioned the fact that the decor is a bit dated. It may not be very modern but I... more
We spent 2 weeks at this hotel recently. It's location is directly overlooking Funchal Bay with a sea front location. Although no direct access to sea front it has a great pool area and terraces with a panoramic view of sea. (also most bedrooms have sea view.) We stayed B&B and the food was v good with wide variety and... more
