We stayed for a week at the Monte Verde and found it to be a very good hotel. A fair walk from the main area of Funchal but don't let that put you off. The staff are freindly and helpful and the food is good. For the price very good value. more

We found sleeping difficult on the first night,since the mattress was the hardest we have ever encountered in our fairly extensive travels. Spent there a week - mother, father and daughter 11 yrs old. - Monte Verde is a very nice place for everybody who does not like big hotels.- Close to the city, close to good and very good restaurants, enjoyed the banana-fields and gardens.
