Less opulent and grand than the website suggests, although the rooms were exceptionally comfortable and well appointed, Pools are wonderful. Staff less than friendly and perhaps it was only due to the current economy but we seemed to be surrounded by pensioners!!! more

We went to the Royal Savoy in some trepidation. We had stayed at the Savoy Classsic for some 15 years and as it closed in May 2009 we were upgraded to the Royal Savoy - a much more modern and, to us, less welcoming Hotel How wrong we were. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the... more

A very good hotel. Helpful staff, good service and never seemed over busy even though the hotel was full. The pools are great and never crowded. Plenty of sun loungers all over the resort so never any problem finding one, wheather it's overlooking the ocean or the pools. The room (Jnr suite) was very well laid out and had air... more

Just returned from a week of true luxury (without the stuffiness that all too often goes with it). The rooms are immaculately clean, the ocean views are breathtaking and the pool area is so large you never feel as if there are too many people staying, although the occupancy rate was 100% when we were there! The staff are all... more

I was originally booked into the Classic Savoy but on the closure of that hotel, I was transferred to the Royal Savoy for my weeks holiday. The front entrance is unremarkable, signage not very clear and unless you are looking for the place, you could go right past it! After checking in it's strange to get into the lift and... more

We stayed for our second year at the Royal Savoy. Guests are mainly of an age where gentile surroundings are appropriate and seek old fashioned courtesies and excellent service combined with the calm, relaxed, spacious accommodation that is on offer. This is a very good resort where the food is also of an exceptional standard but at a price although... more

I have a Time Share at the Royal and both my wife and myself enjoy the hotel and have had superb service over the six years we have been visiting. We do not skimp and eat out and in the Royal as well as going "al fresco" on our balcony. I have to say the meals are somewhat on the... more

We traded our Marriott time share for a week here and have generally been pleased. The room is spacious, with a separate living room area and efficiency kitchen. The pool area is as beautiful as the photos although the spa was not warm enough. Upkeep is generally good, although there are a few nicks, etc., that could benefit from repairs.... more

Spent week at this rather dull if clean and tidy resort. Staff tried hard except the night porter who was positively rude! Five star maybe for Madeira but don't expect five star British service and exclusivity. Turned over mainly to fractional ownership with the result that most stay in rooms to eat, drink, etc. Accordingly, public areas bereft of any... more
