We have just returned from a week's stay at this lovely small, quiet hotel. It is situated at the edge of the Lido area about 30 minutes walk from the centre of Funchal and close to bus routes and restaurants. Our room had been refurbished and had a balcony overlooking the owner's private garden. We were so busy out and... More

Hidden treasure. Our stay in this small hotel was perfect.Staff are so kind and thoughtful, lovely tastefully decorated rooms, spotlessly clean. It was delightful sitting out in the lush garden for breakfast, which was varied and ample.Amazing birdsong-I could even hear it from the bath! We met some charming fellow guests .Location wise it was good (although beware hills-nearly everywhere in Funchal is breathtakingly steep),a... More

I have just returned from a weeks holiday here and it was wonderful. The staff are lovely and they can't do enough for you. The breakfasts are very lavish and there is something for everybody. I had room 16 which was wonderful, a large room with bed and seating area. They had cups and a kettle so don't bring your... More

We have just returned from a week in Funchal and stayed in Vila Vicencia from the Thomson Small and Friendly brochure. After dropping people off at the various huge hotels, we were absolutely delighted when we arrived at Vila Vicencia. When you go through the gate you arrive in a beautiful sub-tropical garden where there are three villas. We had... More

We loved this place. Staff were friendly, our room was one of the small ones with no balcony but it did not matter as there were lots of nooks where you could sit and read a book. The 3 villas are surrounded by gardens and a pool. This is the hotel for you if you hate the idea of a... More

Stayed here for 2 weeks early April. Had been very recently redecorated throughout so everything was in very good condition with a blend of modern white and traditional dark wood furniture.Room(standard with balcony) was a generous size with a kettle/cups provided.Bathroom was a good size too and had a large walk in shower with decent power. Balcony was small .... More

Most of the hotels in Funchal seem to be of the concrete block variety, but the Vila Vicencia, hidden behind a locked garden door, is a real gem. It consists of three traditional villas set in a garden full of flowers. If you go for sanitised luxury this might not be for you, but our room was spacious, comfortable, and... More

Our weeks trip booked with thompsons was just how it was described in the brochure and we agree with most of the comments on TA. A very friendly place, in the midst of a concrete jungle. the breakfast was plentiful, coffee great. Our room no 24 in the main building had a lounge area with a balcony, which had just... More

What a beautiful little oasis, hidden away behind the secure garden door. We booked a superior room, which had a good size balcony, and YES, we COULD see the sea! The bedroom was large, clean & airy - our usual complaint of twin beds pushed together instead of a double bed, but most hotels seem to have that now! The... More
