This was our first visit to Madeira and we loved everything about it from the people to the scenery to the food! It is quite hilly, though. The hotel is up a steep hill, but for us it just made it nicer as you were a bit further away from the hustle and bustle, not that it ever gets too... more

Despite some negative reviews on this site, I noted the Savoy Gardens (formerly Vila Ramos) was due to open, refurbished, in May 2008 so we took a chance. We were glad we did. The hotel has been completely refurbished, from the exterior, reception, the bar, and restaurant through to the guest rooms. We had booked a room with a mountain... more

Yes, it is a bit faded but if you want extra gloss, pay twice as much to go elsewhere. As it is, this hotel has nice thick walls between rooms, comfortable beds and is in a reasonably convenient and fairly quiet location (there are plenty of hotels in Funchal you can't say that about). Very good value, and once you've... more

Hotel Vila Ramos, Funchal, Madeira Date: 31 Oct 2007 Reviewer: DM Cheshire. UK My wife and I returned last week after spending two good weeks at the above hotel. Prior to arrival we had concerns after reading earlier trip advisor reviews but found the hotel perfectly satisfactory, value for money, clean, the staff and management very efficient, accommodating and the... more

We were apprehensive about the hotel after reading other reviews but compared with other hotels we've stayed in it wasn't that bad. Yes, it could do with refurbishing but it was clean, the breakfast was adequate and the staff were all friendly. We didn't have any problems with the situation as we walked into town and on most nights caught... more

Stanley Kubrick is turning in his grave… If you got scared watching “The Shining” then this is not the hotel for you! As others have said, it’s very 70s, but it’s also very eerie and creepy. The lifts are scary: they are really small and make strange noises as they climb up the obsolete building. Once we pressed the wrong... more

Yes the breakfast is 70's continential but everything they served was extremely fresh and the daily scrambled egg was delicious, a previous reviewer mentioned the coffee but I (a strong black coffee drinker) couldn't complain. I have to agree with all previous reviewers the hotel is very clean but in need of a refurb, but don't be put off by... more

Well this place really was a step back in time! We were amazed that this place still displayed 4 stars at the entrance. We had a pleasant stay mind you and it suited our budget when we booked. The whole place hasn't changed since it was built in 1973 and that includes most of the staff. There were limited staff... more

No way is this a 4 star hotel. Pool is ok, breckfast also not bad, bar not cheep but ok. Rooms clean, most staff frendly. Needs some work on it. It's a hard walk back up the hill to the hotel so if you are not fit stay in the town center. more

Hotel is a quite good location, if you are able to walk to town (or take a taxi). City centre is about 2 Kilometers away. Walking back takes it time. Busstops are nearby, (necessary for Levada walking). The LIDO is in walking distance, too. Friendly multilingual staff. Rooms are clean, but the whole hotel needs refurbishing. We liked the sight... more
