Rooms very very dirty. Noisy place. Very old hotel. Bathroom and toilet are unspeakable. more

Amazing how experiences vary! We thought the room very ordinary and tired looking- we could hardly turn around in the bathroom-but that seemed typical of Greek hotels. The public areas-reception and dining room were very pleasant, the breakfasts ordinary; the lifts tiny. It was EU election weekend when we were there-we could hear all the noise from Santagma Square-til 2... more

First time to Athens so not sure of the standard in other hotel but this one is very very basic. Air conditioning worked well. Breakfast was good, and thats where the good part ends. Small room, tiny and very old bathroom. Toilet blocked and had to call for help, this took longer than it should have. Reception staff surly. Very... more

This is a very good hotel in the safe and buzzing area of Syntagma Square. If you take the X95 from the airport, the bus takes you in 50 mins to Syntagma and the hotel is just 50mtrs from the bus stop. Although a bit antiquated, the room was spacious and the bathroom was clean. The airconditioner did not work... more

I just revisited Athens and had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Arethusa. The location is a great advantage. It is under 5 minutes from the metro (6 euros to the airport too!), the X95 to the airport (2.50), and the tram (.60) to get to the beach (altho it takes about 45 minutes... Try the beaches at Glyfadia... more

My travel agent recommended this hotel and after reading the reviews, I was worried as you can guess. I can only agree with a previous reviewer who said that the rooms must vary dramatically. I was on the 8th floor and, apart from no view at all, my room was fine, especially for the price and location. So here I... more

We were shocked with Athens in general at the level of smoking absolutely everywhere. The Arethusa was no exception, staff in reception smoking all day, smoking at breakfast and our room absolutely stank of smoke. Very difficult for non-smokers to handle. 2 days is sufficient to cover the sites of Athens, anymore and you will be bored - get out... more

Perhaps I've become too familiar with North American hotels and large chain hotels. I must admit that I have not stayed at a large number of European hotels. But this is by far, the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The reception was friendly, but everthing else was awful. The elevators were tiny and required 3 trips up and down... more

After reading some of the other reviews I have to laugh. If you are going to Greece and want luxory, then why would you expect Arethusa to fufill your needs? Arethusa is a BARGAIN in this economy. Being from the states, the Euro is very strong and it is hard to find decent accomodations under 100 Euro. Hotel Arethusa is... more

An old hotel that has had some parts modernised we found the Arethusa to be clean and comfortable just what we wanted for a few nights in Athens. No internet or business services availabile on site but we managed to get wifi from one of the neighbours! Breakfast services were great. Location perfect for tourists. more
