It was simple and frill-free but absolutely fine for our purposes. If you want pampering this isn't your place, but if you want just somewhere to sleep (in a comfy bed) in good reach of the centre then this is ideal. The only thing I would say is breakfast isn't up to much more

The first thing that should alarm you about the Rio Hotel is that they've airbrushed the photos of it on the official site. I read reviews about the neighborhood and safety and wonder what they were expecting. It's a simple hotel that is off the main street. Athens isn't Beverly Hills, there are some areas that are filled with graffiti and abandoned buildings. That doesn't mean it isn't safe. We stayed at the hotel Rio Athens in June 2008. This hotel is absolutely the best choice in Athens. Clean and near the city attractions.
