My daughter has urged me to write this review, after exploring TripAdvisor herself and seeing the benefits of traveler reviews.
Our family of 5 stayed at the Ionian in late June 2008, as a layover before taking a ferry out in the morning. The booking was made at the Athens airport at the “hotel desk”; we had arrived at night, and a day early, due to a late change with Olympic Airways. The clerk was determined to put us into the Ionian and no other. He assured us that the shockingly high price of 300 Euros was well worth it, for the “family room, with American breakfast” at this hotel.
Well, a year later we still laugh about the shock of arriving at this creepy place. It’s on a very dark street, although fortunately only a short sprint from (or to!) the apparent safety of the well-lit main boulevard of the Piraeus harbor.
The “family room” was a regular twin room stuffed with 5 cots. There was barely room to step through or over these creaky metal cots...
