Having been impressed with the review of the Villa Arhanes in a guide book of special places to stay in Greece we were disappointed to find a large estate of housing being built right next door to the Villa. We had to endure noise and dust from bulldozers and lorries from 7am throughout the day.
The Villa is owned by Maris hotels, whose other properties are in the 5-star, luxury bracket, so we were surprised to find our appartment 'Dionysus' so small and dark. We expected 'traditional decor', but a few soft towels might have added a modicum of luxury - some of the grey, frayed, hard things we were given would have been better suited to use as floorcloths!
There was no sign of the previous manager who according to this guide 'prepares evening meals on request'. There was only one young girl who had to do everything single-handedly, from managing to cleaning the appartments, and although very helpful and friendly, was often absent.
