This hotel is located in the old town amid rock walls and cobblestone walkways. The roads lead downhill to the waterfront where restaurants and shops line the coast. There is a Maritime Museum at one end and an old tower on the other. If one continues to walk up the coast, there is a beach where one can swim. The... More

The Porto Del Colombo in Chania Harbour has a genuine historical feel and is so close to the harbour tavernas and shops that everything is in easy reach. We stayed for two nights and the staff were extremely helpful. Rooms were spotless and beautifully furnished, The price is very competitive. Breakfast was basic but very good quality. We were given... More

I quickly booked a room online when I decided to make a side trip to Crete recently. I only booked 3 days just in case the hotel was not a good fit for me. I ended up staying 10 days and loving it. Travelers should know it is in the old town so you will have to walk (a short... More

We were very impressed by our stay here. The rooms are spacious, the breakfast is a good buffet, and the staff were exceptionally helpful. For example, they provided us with a substantial picnic when we went for a full-day trip to the Samaria Gorge (well worth doing - longest gorge in Europe) as well as excellent cheese pies for breakfast.... A very carefully renovated and decorated hotel, located in the centre of the old town of Chania. The staff was very friendly, pleasant to chat with and happy to assist. The rooms were gorgeous and spotless clean, and so were the bed linen and towels! Breakfast was served until 10:30 and was a pleasant start of the day! The price... More

we were told that the building is dated back to the times when the turks were ruling in greece, that means it's over 600 years ago! can you imagine staying in a place that old? that was a truly unique experience, due to the aura of the place. our room was generously sized and very well maintained, superclean and decorated... We stayed at the hotel at the first 5 days of August during the peak period. The hotel is located in the old town of Chania but is in a quiet alley so there is no noise problem. Restaurants, bars and the lively live of Chania old town were two minutes from the hotel. The rooms and the bathroom were... More

Set in the heart of the maze of passages and alleys in the old Venetian port town of Chania, this is a charming little hotel. Two minutes from the restaurants at the port, and 10 minutes to the beach, the location is perfect; friendly staff are an added bonus. Only downside was lugging suitcases up 84 steps to our room... We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable, and had a character that suited the lovely town of Chania. This was one of the very few hotels I have stayed where it was quiet enough for a light sleeper like myself to get a great nights sleep. The... More

Porto del Colombo is in the old town of Chania; perfectly situated for strolling around the port and exploring this fascinating place. Our room was spacious, comfortable and offered lovely views of the port. But what made this hotel special for us was the amazing help offered by Eleftheria & Roula, the 2 delightful young ladies on reception, when we... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Our Hotel, an imposing, tall, 600 year old building, has gathered a rich history over the passing of the centuries. During the days of Turkish Rule, the building housed members of high ranking Turkish military who made many changes to the buildings architecture - even built a Hamam. In the garden and next to that, a room to secure their slaves (where you can still see the metallic rings nailed to the walls). In the beginning of the 19th Century, the building was used as a French embassy and later was inhabited by the great Greek political figure, Eleftherios Venizelos, who also used it as his political offices until his move to Athens, when he took power as Prime Minister of Greece. The Hotel has 10 beautiful rooms - the 2 of which are maisonettes - fully restored and traditionally decorated to provide our guests with an especially warm and welcome feeling. All rooms have modern conveniences (WC, telephone, TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning and Central Heating in winter) ensuring our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. ... more   less
